Periodic maintenance is not only an oil-change reminder. The biggest ownership problems often start with small things the rider can see or feel early: weak braking, uneven tyre wear, chain slack, belt noise, fork oil marks, or a scooter that starts vibrating more than usual.
Check one: tyres and brakes
Look at tyre tread, sidewall cuts, air pressure, brake pad life, brake lever feel, disc marks, and drum brake adjustment. A two-wheeler with a healthy engine but poor tyres or brakes is not actually well maintained.
Check two: drive and suspension
For motorcycles, chain slack, lubrication, sprocket wear, and alignment matter. For scooters, belt/CVT noise and pickup changes matter. Also inspect front fork oil marks, rear shock leaks, handlebar pull, and unusual knocking sounds.

Before a long ride or before monsoon, ask the workshop to inspect these items in person. Better performance and vehicle life usually come from boring checks done on time, not from expensive repairs after symptoms become obvious.
